I just loved this picture when I first saw it, so much so I copied it, flicked it to friends and family and continue to smile whenever I see it.
So I asked myself, why do I find this particular image so amusing? After all I am totally against smoking, I hate dancing in public, and while I am certainly no stranger to the drink, I’m well aware of what “too much” can mean, both personally as well as on a wider scale.
And what the picture says to me is not about the actions of the characters and more about how at times we all have to be real and front up to the fact that we cannot be perfect all of the time! We all have habits and whether our habits are good or bad is a matter of perspective and how we use them!
Take for instance impatience. If I asked you is impatience good or bad, what would you say? Patience is a definite virtue. We all get that drummed into us at a very young age! And yet impatience can also be a huge motivator, have you dig deeper, push harder and get things done faster or find ways to do things more efficiently!
Our habits create our world and it is the awareness around them that is most important. Our ability to take ownership of whatever habits we have, refusing to allow them to be the excuses that we hang our failures and disappointments on. At the end of the day, it is our being responsible for the actions/results produced either way – good or bad – the choice is ours!
Believe it – even our so-called ‘bad habits’ can help empower us – we just have to know how!
